30. Lactose Intolerance

Recently, I realized that I’m not actually lactose intolerant. All of my siblings are, so my family stopped buying milk when I was in middle school and I just assumed that I was lactose intolerant too because of my siblings. I also never really drank enough milk to figure it out. Additionally, I thought I could be lactose intolerant because my stomach feels weird when I drink milkshakes, but I’ve realized that it’s because of all of the sugar, rather than the dairy. So, I’ve started drinking whole milk again, and I feel like I’ve been missing out on milk as it tastes good and has a lot of nutrients.

I think that if I had kept drinking milk from my early childhood until now, I may have ended up a little taller and stronger. I think that milk has so many nutritious benefits and I regret stopping for a while. Maybe I would’ve been 5’10 or 5’11 instead of 5’9, and maybe I would have naturally developed more muscle mass. Still, there’s nothing I could do about it now except making sure I drink some every day. Here’s a haiku about it:

Protein and good fat

Vitamin D and others

Strong Bones Big Muscles

29. Haiku Haiku

My blog consists of

Haikus and some other things

And also haikus

I just looked through my blog posts and I realized that many of them are haikus. I just really enjoy writing haiku’s and it’s something that I had already been doing for years since I took this course. Some may see it as a lazy way to add blog posts, but I think that it is the perfect format to condense ideas into a strict poetic structure. It really makes me focus on the core of what I’m trying to say and prevents me from rambling and adding unnecessary content. When you have to follow a 5-7-5 format, you have to pick your words carefully.

28. Japan

My favorite country to visit is Japan, especially the country’s smaller islands. I just love the food there, the polite culture based upon respect and honor, the cleanliness, the architecture and the natural environment of the country sides. I’ve been there twice, and I had a wonderful time during each visit. I hope to go again soon with friends, and once I have a family of my own, I’d like to bring them there.

I wouldn’t live there, however, because of the terrible work culture, and the fact that I’d probably be looked down upon due to my Chinese and Filipino heritage. Still, it’s a place that I love to visit.

Something that I would like to do when I buy my own home is build a Zen garden. I’d want it to have a koi pond, beautiful flowers and other things that are calming and peaceful. Perhaps I could even build a house with Japanese-style architecture, but people might think I’m weird cause I’m not even Japanese.

26. Sharkrilla

If I could combine any two animals to make a super cool animal, I would combine a gorilla and a shark. I imagine it as great white shark that has gorilla arms instead of fins. The arms would make it less aerodynamic, but perhaps it could swim faster by doing a breaststroke or freestyle. It would be able to do all of the things a normal great white shark can do, but it would also have really strong arms to grab things and punch things. I think that this Sharkrilla would be the most dangerous animal in the ocean.

24. Girlfriend’s Critique of My Rice Haiku

My girlfriend just read my haiku about rice and she said that it was barely a haiku because I was just listing things. I think that she needs to take this class because she doesn’t seem to have a proper understanding of creativity.

She doesn’t know that creativity can come in all forms and is very subjective. I think that my haiku is creative because I really thought about what it is about rice that I like, as well as the different types of rice. Sure, the haiku is basic, but I took my thoughts and organized it into a haiku format which took some creativity.

23. Freestyle Poem

This is a freestyle poem, meaning that I type and can’t pause to think or delete words, only fix typos at the end:

I’m eating pirate’s booty, the snacks with white cheddar

I also had some Cheezits, but the pirate booty’s better

I don’t know what I want to eat, I might just want a letter

But you cant eat a letter it’s not edible, but with some sweet baby ray’s bbq, it might just taste incredible

Maybe I should eat Chinese food, some chow mein or kung pao chicken

Maybe I should eat Mexican, some burritos and some tacos

But still I’m not that hungry, and I’m have a mind-blocko

I used to be really good at freestyling, specifically rapping

I could spit some fire at school, all my homies would be clapping

But then I went to college, and start studying accounting

And I got really boring

22. Baseball

I wish I played baseball growing up. I never did because my parents didn’t have me play when I was young, so by the time I got realized that I wanted to give it a try, I was too far behind and couldn’t adapt to the fast pitches. I feel like I could’ve been good at it because I can throw and catch well, but I guess I’ve never tried to hit a real fastball from an actual player, so I still don’t know. Anyways, I like the culture of baseball, the uniforms and the attitude of players. A lot of my friends in high school were on the baseball team, and I think I would’ve fit it well on the team and had a lot of fun.

21. Cool Invention

I think a cool invention would be a phone app that scans food and then provides you with its nutritional information. It’d be useful, especially for college kids as they don’t know how many calories/grams of protein/fat/carbs are in the food they get from the dining halls. We’ll probably need a lot of new technology to actually develop this app, but I hope that it’s something that’s created in the future.
