50. Final Haiku

Fun, cool, dumb and odd

Creative works and ideas

All immortalized

I decided to make my 50th post a Haiku about my thoughts on my blog. Looking back through it, I had a lot of fun and awesome ideas, as well as some strange ones and a few that are certainly questionable. Still, whether or not they are my best ideas, they’ve all been encapsulated by this blog and will be kept here as a record.

I’ve never had something like this blog where I can record my creativity. I’m really glad that I’ve made this as it will be here until either WordPress is shut down or I delete my page, so in the future, I’ll always be able to revisit the creative mind of 20-year-old me.

49. End of School Year Thoughts

I’ll be finished with my sophomore year of college in about three weeks. It’s crazy to think that I’m already half-way done with college, it seems like these past two years have gone by faster than my senior year of high school. The thought of time going by so quickly scares me. I honestly can’t believe I’m 20-years old. I still remember my first day of kindergarten, which was about 15 years ago. It sort of feels like it was just yesterday. Does that mean I’ll be 35-years-old tomorrow?

It feels like time is slipping away from me, like it’s moving too fast. I’m going try to savor each moment and try to appreciate every second I have, especially while I’m young. Here is a list of things that I will try to do from now on:

  1. Spend more time with my family and friends.
  2. Play less video games and spend less time on the internet.
  3. Spend more time in nature and the outdoors.
  4. Try to keep some sort of a journal so I can remember each day.
  5. Try to do something impactful on the world each day, whether it’s picking up a piece of trash or discovering the cure for cancer.

Looking back on my blog, I’m really glad I made this because it has captured some of my creative work and random thoughts that I’ve had throughout the course of the semester. Maybe I’ll try to continue this blog after the semester, not for other people to look at, but for myself so that I’ll have records and memories of certain events and time periods throughout my life.

48. Easter Haiku

Men in bunny suits

Children fight for plastic eggs

The lord has risen

This is a haiku I wrote about Easter. I grew up Catholic and I celebrate nearly every Catholic holiday when I’m at home with my family. I just think that the way we celebrate Easter is pretty silly when compared to the context of the religious occurrence being celebrated.

47. Cool Sport Idea

I think that baseball would be cooler if everybody on the field had bats as they played and players were able to use it for whatever they wanted to, especially hitting their opponents. Sure, it would make the sport really dangerous, but it would also be really funny and exciting.

Imagine this: A batter hits a single and brings his bat with him as he rounds the bases. He makes it past first as the ball hasn’t arrived yet, but once he gets to second, the second baseman is there, waiting to tag him out. Instead of trying to run back to first, the batter engages the second baseman in a sword-fight with bats, trying to strike him in a way that allows him to reach second base without getting tagged.

After the two players clash bats for a few moments, the batter gets the second baseman in the knee. The defender collapses in pain and the batter jogs through and is safe at second base.

46. If I Could Have Any Super Power

If I could have any super power, I would choose the ability to teleport. However, I wouldn’t try to become a superhero or supervillain with my power. I probably wouldn’t try to save anybody or fight bad guys or commit crimes. The only time I would use this ability is when I’m in uncomfortable situations. In these situations, with my teleportation ability, I would just teleport away as soon as I no longer feel like being there anymore. For example, if I’m at a social event that I’m not enjoying the vibe of, I could just disappear without having to awkwardly find an excuse to leave and then exit with everyone wondering what’s wrong with me.

45. How to Make Simple, Delicious Ramen

  1. Acquire package of Sapporo Ichiban Beef Flavored Ramen.
  2. Boil 2 cups of water in a small pot.
  3. Empty flavor packet into small bowl and crack and egg into it.
  4. Mix flavoring and raw egg and add a table spoon of shoyu.
  5. Boil noodles in water for 3 mins and occasionally stir.
  6. Take pot off heat, pour flavoring and egg mixture into pot.
  7. Quickly stir until the egg is shredded into many solid pieces.
  8. Add any other garnishing you may like.
  9. Transfer contents of pot into bowl and eat!

42. The Butterfly Effect

I was just thinking about how I ended up attending SMU all the way from Hawaii, and I realized that it is pretty crazy that I’m here now.

Nobody from my family went to SMU, and nobody from my high school went to SMU. Before coming here, the only two people I knew in the state of Texas were my parents family friends. SMU wasn’t on my radar at all when I was applying to colleges.

What happened was that on a Saturday in January of my senior year of high school, I had nothing to do. I checked my email and saw that Southern Methodist University had extended my application deadline. I was fairly certain I was going to Villanova at that point, but I didn’t receive any scholarship money. So, I applied because I heard SMU had a good business school. A few months later, I was accepted to the school, and I received a larger scholarship than I did from any other school.

So, my parents researched the school a little and took me on a visit to Dallas to see the university. Even though I hated the visit and didn’t want to go to SMU, my parents decided to send me anyways, and now I’m here.

It’s strange to think that I’ve spent the past two years of my life at SMU in Dallas, TX because I had too much free time on a Saturday and made a last-second decision to apply to the school. It really makes me wonder about other tiny decisions and actions of mine that may have changed the course of my life.

41. Money Post

For the assignment involving doing something creative with money, I decided to make origami with a dollar. I did not want to cut up money because I’m a relatively frugal person and don’t like the idea of destroying it as a dollar can be used for things like snacks, water and soda.

I chose to make origami because it was something that I always wanted to try. My hands are not the most dexterous in terms of folding with precision, so I never really attempted to try origami before.

I originally started with trying to make a crane by following instructions that I found online, but I got lost about halfway through and decided to improvise. I ended up making what I think is actually a decent spaceship that is semi-inspired by the cruisers in star wars.

Although I didn’t accomplish my initial goal of making an origami crane, I’m proud of myself for improvising and creating something unique.
